I am a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami and have been in private practice since 2010. I currently serve as a faculty member in the Psychology Department within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Purdue Global and have been teaching online since 2013. Over the years, I have taught courses in ethics, diversity, assessment, neuropsychology, psychopathology, lifespan development, and the foundations of counseling and psychology.
After spending many years working in student counseling, I pursued additional training in hypnotherapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction. This interest was deeply influenced by my family’s personal experience with cancer, which inspired me to support individuals and families impacted by the disease. I have facilitated cancer support groups and provided counseling to patients and their loved ones.
Originally from the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, I have lived in South Florida for the past three decades. I proudly retain my Trinidadian accent, my love for Caribbean cuisine, and my deep appreciation for being near the ocean.
As a mother of two wonderful children, I recognize how challenging it can be to maintain balance. I strongly advocate for self-care and incorporate meditation and yoga into my daily routine. Staying true to my island roots, I also enjoy walking barefoot in the grass, gardening, and visiting the beach whenever I can. I regularly provide education to students, clients, and community members on stress management, mindfulness, and self-care practices.
In recognition of my work, I received a Service Award from Purdue Global in 2023 and the Stephen Shank Recognition Award from Capella University in 2016. My research interests focus on mindfulness, self-care, and student wellness. In 2022, I published my first book, a motivational self-help guide titled Mama, Find Your Power.
Mama, Find Your Power is one stay-at-home, work-from-home, psychologist mom’s journey of finding herself, after losing herself, to motherhood. Dr. Hadeed de Silva shares many relatable stories from her life, while weaving in clinical stories from her practice, all paired with psychology strategies for coping with some of the many challenges that mamas face today.
Dr. Hadeed de Silva invites you to tune in to Dr. Mom is in the House for segments on how to plot your own personalized path to wellness. Wellness is an overall approach to life, and an active journey towards achieving a state of emotional well-being.
Let her guide you towards achieving balance and living towards your optimal wellness.
