Dr. Danielle Hadeed de Silva

Author, Educator, Counseling Psychologist

Introduction

I am a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami and have been in private practice since 2010. I currently serve as a faculty member in the Psychology Department within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Purdue Global and have been teaching online since 2013. Over the years, I have taught courses in ethics, diversity, assessment, neuropsychology, psychopathology, lifespan development, and the foundations of counseling and psychology.

After spending many years working in student counseling, I pursued additional training in hypnotherapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction. This interest was deeply influenced by my family’s personal experience with cancer, which inspired me to support individuals and families impacted by the disease. I have facilitated cancer support groups and provided counseling to patients and their loved ones.

Originally from the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, I have lived in South Florida for the past three decades. I proudly retain my Trinidadian accent, my love for Caribbean cuisine, and my deep appreciation for being near the ocean.

As a mother of two wonderful children, I recognize how challenging it can be to maintain balance. I strongly advocate for self-care and incorporate meditation and yoga into my daily routine. Staying true to my island roots, I also enjoy walking barefoot in the grass, gardening, and visiting the beach whenever I can. I regularly provide education to students, clients, and community members on stress management, mindfulness, and self-care practices.

In recognition of my work, I received a Service Award from Purdue Global in 2023 and the Stephen Shank Recognition Award from Capella University in 2016. My research interests focus on mindfulness, self-care, and student wellness. In 2022, I published my first book, a motivational self-help guide titled Mama, Find Your Power.
